About Kelly Hendry

Kelly Hendry danced as a child in the North East of England from the age of 8. During her competitive career she represented her dancing school and the North East all over the world, winning major titles, such as the All Irelands, Great Britain’s, British Nationals, North American’s and many more. Her most prestigious title was won the day before her 16th birthday when she won the World Irish Dance Championships in Galway. Kelly is still the only solo dancer in the North East of England to have ever won the world title.

Kelly was then asked by Marie Duffy to audition for the Irish Dance extravaganza ‘Lord of the Dance’. Kelly’s audition took place in Wembley arena in front of Michael himself, Marie and Arlene Phillips (Strictly come dancing). Following her audition, Kelly was offered a place in the show, but had to put her dreams on hold until she completed her exams at school. She then joined the show in Denver, USA, and within a few months was dancing the lead role, playing the part of the ‘Temptress’ opposite Michael Flatley. Kelly went on to travel the world, dancing in the USA, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Europe, Taiwan, Singapore, Israel, to name a few of the amazing places she danced.

When Lord of the Dance decided to put a 4th troupe on the road, Kelly was chosen to help train the new dancers and went on to become the female ‘Dance Captain’ of the troupe. Kelly performed in front of Royalty, Hollywood Stars, World Class Singers and Fans all over the globe for the 9 years she was with the show. During her her last year of touring, Kelly started to study for her dancing teachers exam, and went on to successfully qualify as a dance teacher (TCRG). Kelly’s last tour took place in Singapore and Taiwan, where she decided it was time to put some roots down at home and open up her own dance school. The Kelly Hendry School opened in 2005, and started with just a handful of young hopefuls wanting to learn the wonderful art of Irish Dancing.

The Kelly Hendry School Of Irish Dance already boasts British National Champions, Great Britain Champions, American National Champions and 2 World Champion Teams! The school also prides itself on taking part in fundraising events all over the North East to help our dancers achieve their dreams, and also to help support other charity’s. The school has a fabulous Irish Dance Troupe of its own consisting of dancers aged 5-21, who are available to book to perform at functions, events, weddings and parties throughout Newcastle, Gateshead and Tyne & Wear. The show is amazing and you’ll be sure to see Irish dancing at its very best!

Kelly has done it all! From competitive dancing and winning world titles, to touring as a lead dancer with a world class show, but she is at her happiest teaching children to dance and feels honoured to be able to give something back from the lessons and experiences she’s learned along the way. We would like to welcome you to our site and hope you find it informative and inspiring.
